Who Will Run the Frog Hospital?
Just finished reading Who Will Run the Frog Hospital by Lorrie Moore. Let’s blow off the cobwebs and pretend this isn’t the first review I’ve written since Summer 2021.
The thought of me missing books like this makes me shudder.
You see, It’s books like this little one right here that make me so happy to be a reader. This amusingly titled gem is a book for the reader’s soul. It is a novel about one woman reminiscing about her teenage years in a small town where she and her best friend Sils work together in a theme park. In this reminiscing, meandering book, the narrator recalls those little moments in her formative years when the two girls were inseparable, symbiotically living through their loves and lusts together as only young women can. The writing is sharp, quick and quite exhilarating in its simplicity. Perhaps one of the best novels about female friendship I’ve ever read. Frog Hospital was the perfect way to round off 2021.
I’m not going to put any pressure on 2022 to be The Best Year Ever™, but it will be the year I fall in love with writing again.
Stay tuned. Stay well. Stay cute.
